Our History
Our not-for-profit organisation organises and operates the WALAN brand of events, solely through our dedicated team of volunteers, consisting of gaming and networking professionals from the region. Each volunteer contributes their own talents and ideas into organising and running our events, helping us maintain an unparalleled level of quality in everything we do.
The WALAN brand of events has been running since 1998, and is Western Australia's largest and premier event of its type. It is also amongst Australia's most successfully and highly regarded LAN events.
Our leadership in the community has helped raise awareness of computer gaming events in the region, and we have actively supported those who have taken our lead and started their own gaming events. Today you will find that there are several other organisations in the region running the same style of events, which we introduced in late 1998.
After taking a brief hiatus WALAN is back. It may feel like a bit of an unearthing but with the support of the community and some new ideas the team is back and looking to run regular events again.
Our Team
Our organisation is run by volunteers, who give up their free time to organise, run and staff our events, and carry out day-to-day operation of our operation. We would like to take the opportunity to thank the 50+ helpers over the years but invite old and new to help us on our never ending quest to save our girlfriend.I mean help us rebirth what some say cant happen.
Who?
You don't need to be covered in pimples and smell like a dinosaur. It helps if:
- You're IT minded
- You're into gaming
- You're involved in the community
What?
Duties range from taking some coin on the desk, crawling on the floor and fiddling with cables to organising people or picking up pizza. We like you to have:
- A good attitude
- Time to help
- Knowledge of a game or two
- People skills
The Nitty Gritty
Sub-committee or committee - there will be a difference to the duties you perform. If you're interested in the on the day bump and grind join the events committee (aka the Sub-Committee). You'll learn how to run a LAN, how to manage a server or how to organise some pizza boxes into a large tower. No, you won't get paid for your time but don't let that put you off!
Why?
Sub-committee or committee - it's not all about you. If you used to come or you want to come you will still get "free" entry at events for giving back a few hours of your time. If you think you can be on the other side of the desk or you just want a free shirt we ask you "Why not?"
Interested? Then get in touch.
